The cadre of the of SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 23 "Norge" was provided from the surviving troops from some of the already existing Germanic units in the Waffen SS"Nordland": Freiwilligen Legion Norwegen and the SS Infanterie Regiment

Several volunteers from Nordschleswig, which had served in the Infanterie Regiment "Nordland" and already had frontline experience from the fightings in Ukraine, were tranfered to this unit in 1943. Many of them served as NCO`s and were often used to translate between the Norwegian volunteers and the German officers.

"Besitzzeugnis" for the Kraftfahrbewährungsabzeichen in Bronze. Awarded to Friedrich Carstensen, a volunteer from Nordschleswig and a veteran from the SS Infanterie Regiment "Nordland". Friedrich Carstensen was killed in Croatia in October 1943.
